The cost math has flipped. Senior talent + tools + benefits = more than retainers.
The 2026 shift
Three years ago, MENA brands hired in-house: full-time marketing manager, designer, content writer. Total monthly cost: 60–90k EGP for the team alone.
Today the same brands are signing with agencies on 25–50k EGP retainers.
What changed?
- Senior MENA talent salaries doubled. Junior is now 18k, senior is 45k+, head-of-marketing is 80k+. A 4-person team costs 200k/month.
- Tool sprawl. Each role needs 3–5 SaaS subscriptions. HubSpot, Figma, Mixpanel, Klaviyo, Looker. Total: 8–15k EGP/month per team.
- Hiring is slow. Senior marketing hires take 60+ days. Agencies onboard in a week.
- Performance accountability. A bad employee costs you 3 months of severance + lost time. A bad agency? You switch in 30 days.
When in-house still wins
- You ship daily product changes (DTC brand, app)
- Marketing is your moat
- You have 50+ people and need cohesion
When agencies win
- You're SMB or scaling early-stage
- You need expertise across 4–5 channels
- You want output, not headcount
The MindHub thesis: 80% of MENA SMBs should be on agency retainers, not full-time hires.
